Paola Pisano

Graduated in Economics, MBA in Finance and PHD in Economics and Innovation, she is Professor of Economics and Business Management at the University of Turin. She is director of the AI and BigData Laboratory of the University of Torino HighEst LAb, and vice director of digital humanity interdepartmental center Dish. Member of the PhD board in Circular Economy and Heritage Science, she has published more than 90 articles in national and international journals and is the author of two books. She was visiting professor at Westminster University and Glasgow University. She founded and directed the interdepartmental technology innovation center ICxT for technology transfer. She was Minister of Technological Innovation and Digitisation of the Italian Republic in the Conte II government, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Minister of Public Function in the Draghi government. She was Councillor for Innovation and Smart City in the City of Turin during the Appendino government. She has worked in Italy and abroad in consulting firms on technological transformation projects for companies in various sectors (banking, pharmaceuticals, publishing, fashion). She is an expert in technological innovation and digital transformation in public and private companies.

Luca Macis

Luca Macis is a Data Scientist, a PhD Candidate in Economics and Statistics from the University of Turin, and a Master’s in Stochastics and Data Science from the University of Turin. He collaborated with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on an early warning system for conflict prevention. He has spoken at numerous conferences, including the European Conference on Machine Learning, the Jan Tinbergen European Peace Science Conference, and the VIEWS prediction challenge. He will also participate in CARMA 2024. Luca has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Turin and has worked with Marco Tagliapietra and Paola Pisano on using eXplainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) to predict deaths from armed conflicts, funded by a grant from Notre Dame University.

Marco Tagliapietra

Marco Tagliapietra is a Data Scientist with experience in research and advanced data analysis. He holds a Master’s degree in Stochastics and Data Science from the University of Turin and a Bachelor’s degree in Theoretical Mathematics from the University of Bologna. After two scholarships at the University of Turin, he is now working as a PhD student at the University of Turin. He currently works mainly on a model to predict possible conflict escalation in countries around the world in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In recent years, he has participated as a speaker in numerous conferences and conventions in the field of Data Science and geopolitics, such as “European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases 2023”, “The 22nd Jan Tinbergen European Peace Science Conference”, “The 2023/24 VIEWS prediction challenge”, and others. Along with these conferences, he was invited as a visiting professor to give lectures on machine learning and the world of geopolitical databases at the Master in Cultural Property protection in Crisis Response and at the Master in Communication, ICT and Media.
